Few things are as comforting and universally loved as a classic baked potato. This recipe delivers potatoes with crisp, golden skin and fluffy, cloud-like interiors, perfect for loading up with your favorite toppings or enjoying simply with a pat of butter and a sprinkle of chives. Baking directly on the oven rack ensures even heat circulation, creating that signature texture contrast. Whether served as a side or a main, these baked potatoes are endlessly adaptable and a true staple for any home cook.
Ingredients
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
Scrub the potatoes thoroughly under running water and dry them well with a towel.
Prick each potato several times with a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.
Rub each potato all over with olive oil, then sprinkle with kosher salt and black pepper.
Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack (with a baking sheet on the rack below to catch any drips).
Bake for 50–60 minutes, turning once halfway through, until the skins are crisp and a fork easily pierces the flesh.
Remove from the oven. Let cool for 5 minutes, then slice each potato lengthwise and gently squeeze the ends to fluff the interior.
Top each potato with a pat of butter and a sprinkle of chives, or serve with your favorite toppings.
